Rudolf will replace Rebecca in Raimund Theater sometime in 2007. [/i][/quote] Well, I'm a bit disappointed that Rudolf won't be in the Ronacher (as it was originally planned), so that they could play both musicals at the same time

According to this (http://www.magwien.gv.at/vtx/vtx-rk-xlink?SEITE=020070618025) site, Rudolf will finally come to Vienna after Rebecca.

Meh, so long to wait for everything!
Has anyone here heard the English Rudolf demo?

I have. I don't find it anything special. Just a bunch of love songs, mostly. With a couple others thrown in there.

I haven't heard though I'm curious. I just hope its not as boring as Civil War or Scarlet Pimpernel sometimes. (yeah I would prefer Scarlet as a more action-comic musical and cut that love-rubish scenes.)

I have too, and it's not VERY special- but it sounds more promising than Dracula, as far as lyrics go, anyway. There are a few I really like, such as "The Writings on the Wall". It's sort of reminscent of "The Riddle", which, I have to admit, I love, for some reason or another. But mainly, there's just too much of the same, I think. All of Rudolf's songs sound the same- most of them even end on the same note and the same WORD! It is worth a listen, though, just for the sake of about four or five songs.

(yeah I would prefer Scarlet as a more action-comic musical and cut that love-rubish scenes.) Wildhorn has this odd thing where his musicals are always full of vapid, boring romantic songs, often much more than the material it's based on would allow, when it's really the dark or the comical/adventurous stuff he excels in. It's very odd. I always love the non-romatic parts of his musicals and get bored to tears in the romantic parts, and there's way too much of the latter. There are some good songs in Rudolf, but those are definitely not any of the Rudolf/Mary songs. Besides being as boring as Wildhorn's romantic songs ever are, they're far too light to do justice to the tragedy and darkness of that couple. It's particularly funny as the musical is based on Frederic Morton's Nervous Splendor which actually has a particularly harsh interpretation of Mary Vetsera, presenting her as little more than a scheming minx who wanted to improve her position by becoming the mistress of the Crown Prince. I sometimes wish that there would be a fictionalised version of Rudolf's story something close to how I understand it, but maybe that is too much to hope for. EDIT: On one of the songs being reminiscent of The Riddle - have you noticed how much Wildhorn recycles his music? I think there is a song that's reminiscent of The Riddle and/or Madame Guillotine in just about every musical of his, and then others pop up as well sometimes. 'Nosferatu' in Dracula, for example, is exactly like 'His Work and Nothing More' in J&H. And of course he recycled the whole "Only Love" song from the earlier SP to Rudolf, and that's the song I always liked the least in SP... Usually he at least has a better judgement and only reuses the good music.

I noticed that too. The Riddle and the Writings on the Wall aren't too bad. Nosferatu and His Work and Nothing More are almost EXACTLY the same! It drives me insane. Well I believe that Only Love was actually written FOR Rudolf, but then they didn't end up doing it, and did SP instead. Then it was taken out, and since they finally got the opporunity to do Rudolf, they put it back in there.

The only songs I normaly like in Wildhorn's Musicals are the comic ones honestly. I haven't hear any of the Rudolf songs since I don't have them, but judging by the story and Wildhorn's tradition I fear It would flop in Austria since 1st they already staged Jekyll & Hyde and Scarlet Pimpernel and people would react badly to a Rudolf musical that's not even close to the quality of Elisabeth...

Well I never said- and never would say- that it was nearly up to THOSE standards....it's just not as bad as you might think. And yes, the comical songs in his musicals are generally the best. Pity for Dracula, since they weren't supposed to be comical....

Yeah, though I must say, the german version performed in Graz this Summer is wonderfull. There's a bit comedy but not in the songs of Dracula (normaly with Van Helsing...now I dunno it they were meant to be funny or its just Uwe). But I hope for a CD and to everyone that liked Jekyll & Hyde Ressurection, this new version of Dracula will bewitch you...because the musics are very in Ressurection style ;D

Hm. I didn't like the style of "Resurrection" for Jekyll and Hyde...but I could almost see it working for Dracula. I'll have to hear that.

Rudolf will be premiered by the end of February, 2009.
Rudolf's conductor Koen Schoots said, Drew Sarich is going to play Rudolf, while Martin Pasching announced that his girlfriend Wietske will be playing Stephanie.
As rumour has it, the rôle of Countess Larisch will be played by Carin Filipcic, though Maya Hakvoort has auditioned for it, too.
Pia Douwes has allegedly auditioned, too - no clue for which rôle.
And now guess whom they're rewriting (expanding) the rôle of Count Taaffe for...
