After 12 years, many rumors and fans crying out loud for it, VBW announced in their Spielplan for 2009 the return of Tanz der Vampire to Vienna in Autumn, this time to the stage of the Ronacher Theater! ;D It will be only for a restricted period, but I guess a short Revival is better than none... Cast obviously is unknowned, but I wouldn't be surprise to see Thomas return has Krolock... More info on the Spielplan at www.musicalvienna.at/produktionen/uebersicht/aktuell/t6_652

I actually squealed out loud when I read this! Thank you for posting the info! Now, let us wait for more information on exactly when it's happening and for how long - and who will be in it. *is hugely excited!* Like you, I would not be surprised if Thomas Borchert would do Krolock once more in this production. And if it's a very limited run, they might anyway prefer to use at least some actors who've already done the show before. Well, we'll see.

The timing sounds to me like they'll just put everyone and everything in Oberhausen in a truck (ok several trucks) and bring them over to Vienna for this "limited" run. However, I'm not very sure that the relatively small named actors from the current production will please the Vienna audience. Truth is, I thought that SE would do this "truck thing" instead for the Belgian production. It would make more sense to send the scenery there as at least the show would still be theirs instead of VBW. Though of course, I'm just speculating out load and things could turn out very different. Still, there'll be quite a saturation of Tanz shows next year if Vienna, Antwerp, and the Winter season of Budapest run at the same time...

I don't think that's likely. Oberhausen is a Stage Entertainment production, not a VBW one, and it's always seemed to me that SE and VBW have a pretty different approach to things and I don't see VBW wanting to just take over the Oberhausen cast (though of course if the actors audition and seem good enough, why not - but they wouldn't have time to rehearse in Vienna, would they?). Also, people who might sell in Germany are not the same people who might sell in Vienna. I somehow feel it's more likely that we'll see a lot of the 10th anniversary concert cast reprise their roles. But we'll see what actually happens. Speculations and guesses are always just speculations and guesses...

You're right about the difference between the German and the Viennese audience (which makes me question even more the idea of just moving the whole production of The Producers to Berlin). Still, I think they ought to get the 2nd cast from Oberhausen and Berlin... perhaps even take the current first cast and make them the understudies. I don't think they would mind seeing as it is Vienna after all. This would at least guarantee that they don't have a repeat of what I call "the Oberhausen Alfred problem" :-P

Well according to the VBW they will stage the ORIGINAL production wich leads me to think "Stärker als wir sind" would be out and the ballet back in, and Totale Finsternis again in the long version. And the Oberhausen production uses the changed script so it would also be a bit of a nightmare for the actors to start all over again.
But the Belgian/Dutch production will be in german? I was hopping it would be in dutch...

Well according to the VBW they will stage the ORIGINAL production wich leads me to think "Stärker als wir sind" would be out and the ballet back in, and Totale Finsternis again in the long version. The 10th Anniversary Concert was called Das Original-Musical in Concert, and Die roten Stiefel and Stärker als wir sind were still performed. Those songs have been a part of the official script of Tanz der Vampire since the Stuttgart production, so I highly doubt that VBW would cut them out. Yay for the vampires coming back to Vienna!

Wow, I'm so excited about the news, yay!!! ;D I already have a couple of cast suggestions , but I hope they will stage the production according to the latest concept and not like the original Vienna show. I think it's very fitting to bring Tanz back to the roots.

I already have a couple of cast suggestions Hmm... Could it be that we are talking about a certain vampire count? If yes, I definitely second that suggestion.

I like the current Alfred problem!!! Well, OK, I haven't seen the new Alfred and not sure what the problem is, but . . . . on Sunday I got to see Fredrik Wickerts again I'm happy!

haha... the "current" Alfred problem (solved only last weekend when Riccardo Greco had his premiere) was that Krisha Dalke had no understudy. Unlike Nele who had Anne and Sanne (Berlin Sarahs), Krisha has Riccardo (who had never done the role before) and Tibor (who has only done the show in Hungarian). To be honest, I'm shocked that they considered Riccardo fit for a premiere even before Tibor whose only problem is learning the show in German. Thus, the only solution was to bring in Kevin or Fredde whenever Krisha couldn't perform.
Just for the record, what do you think "limited run" means? I cannot imagine staging a production of Tanz to be profitable at less than Oberhausen's 10 months.
Also, maybe you guys are right about how little SE and VBW have to do with each other. I don't think anything could be worse for Oberhausen ticket sales than this announcement.

Thanks for explaining, thought it had to be that!
'Limited Run' . . . on the leaflets for the show in Oberhausen it says 'Nur fur 10 monate!', so that restricts it, at last initially in people's minds. Lets hope limited run in Wien means at least 10 months! Especially as for Oberhausen they have the Berlin sets to keep the costs down and VBW may do their own.
Auditions were held for Belgium in Antwerp in November, anyone know when it is supposed to begin there? I did wonder if they would use the Berlin sets after Oberhausen as it will be a SE production I believe.
Roll on Wien in the autumn, can't wait! (hasn't impacted my Oberhausen ticket sales though, I *need* to see the vamps as much as possible!!!).
