She was a cover in Stuttgart and then principal in Hamburg several years ago, so she's not exactly new. I don't think she's ever worked with VBW before.

I guess there are lots of young actors who can easily compete with Marjan and Lukas. Exactly! I bet there are an awful lot of talented young actors who'd deserve a chance to prove themselves, and many of them would fit the parts better than Marjan and Lukas. The Budapest production keeps finding totally amazing actors who nobody has ever heard of before, so I don't understand why the Vienna people can't pick a few more new faces, they've certainly got a larger selection to choose from! I guess it's something that Anna at least is a new face in Vienna, but I'd have hoped that at least Magda could have been someone truly new and young. Well, here's to hoping she'll be good, at least. I guess I should be throwing cartwheels because they didn't cast Tim Reichwein as Herbert.

What I really don't get it is... why? Why would they pick these people for the primary roles? Thomas, fair enough, I always believe there should be a big name in the role of Krolock, but what possible reason would they have for not picking up some fresh talent?

I'm not that happy with the cast, either. Okay, Marjan and Lukas were quite obvious, but I bet that out there would be a ton of fresh talent that could pull out the roles better than they. I suppose their names sell, then... Lukas just seems very one-sided in the boy roles and Alfred in the concert was no exception, and though Marjan sometimes sings very well, her voice just is too tiny for the songs and for Thomas's voice. Gernot and Thomas had better be there when I'm seeing the production. With excellent and mostly this far unknown Alfreds, Sarahs and Magdas apparently coming from every door and window in Budapest, I can't understand what's the problem in Vienna. Last weekend I saw the Hungarian 4th cast Alfred, who is 19, played the role for the first time in his life, and acted and sang better than most Alfreds I've ever seen. These people here have an extra pair of lungs hidden somewhere. I rejoice about Kentaur doing the sets, though. The man is a genious, and he deserves the technical excellency of Ronacher and the money of VBW.

Have they mentioned anywhere the duration for this new production? I remember they originally said "limited run" but were vague about the dates.
For Cia, have you written a review for the new Budapest cast? I'd love to read it :-)

I think I've read somewhere that the TdV will only run till December 2009. But I highly doubt it as I think that the show is popular enough to sell a high number of tickets for quite a long time. I also think that it's a pretty expensive show, so a short run might be not a good idea. (or are they taking anything from other productions?)
Btw, tickets can only be bought for September and October on the VBW site...

The official derniere ATM is in December 2009, but the actors have contracts or have been asked to stay until December 2010, I think, so they probably aren't yet sure how long it will be performed. For Cia, have you written a review for the new Budapest cast? I'd love to read it :-) Nope, I haven't written a review since I saw the show for the first time, but I promise to write one after I get home next weekend.

That reminds me, I have a review of the winter performances that I haven't posted at all here... Must fix that. I also will write a review of last Friday's performance as soon as I have time, I want to squee. Anyway, I agree with Cia: after seeing some of the wonderful, completely unknown, barely-out-of-school Alfreds they've managed to dig up here in Budapest, the VBW have zero excuse for not trying to find fresh talents when they've got much more people to choose from.

I could swear I saw this posted on this board but I can't find it anywhere, so sorry for a possible re-post: A video of the cast presentation. There's not much more new information except that this will be Caspar Richter's last work in VBW. And according to Cornelius Baltus "the sets will be everything else than what you expect them to be". This will get interesting... Marjan and Lukas don't sound as bad as I expected, though they're still too pop-like for my taste and don't seem like Sarah and Alfred to me. I've been spoiled by Hungarians. And Marjan's voice is so overpowered by Thomas's in Totale Finsternis. Besides, she looks like someone has attacked her with Botox and tan spray. For fans of Thomas a little warning: if you plan to go there especially in October, he probably won't be there. He's got Novecento in Hamburg and Berlin, and unless they are using an understudy in Graf von Monte Cristo in St. Gallen, there are also a couple of performances of that. I'm curious to see who the 3rd Krolock will be, because Aleks di Capri can't perform all the time. If only they'd publish the names of the ensemble...

Girls, I've been lurking at your eclipsis.org board and can see that you've been discussing Thomas and Marjan in the new costumes. The red hair is a bit jarring at first but overall, I think she looks AMAZING. Thomas... well, somebody mentioned Frankenstein because of the wig. Let's wait and see if some minor tweaks will improve his look by showtime. I'm excited to see him in the purple TF costume though. In case you haven't seen this yet, Lukas as Alfred. www.rundschau.co.at/rsooe/home/story.csp?cid=12626907&sid=75&fid=55&CSPCHD=00600107000048s6jldM000000t7KOZ7gCtgf$s$xdBUukfw--I'm not very happy. Being that he's among the older ones to take on the role, I'm kinda wishing they could have done something to make him look more adorable. Maybe soft curls or something... anything just to give an innocent shy effect that makes Alfred so endearing.

*looks wary* Waah! We can't even talk in Finnish without being stalked! Waah! Well, seriously, I think that what I was saying there was that the red hair looks strange on Marjan, but on the other hand I really love that colour together with the dress and the general colour scheme of the Kentaur-designed TdV, so I'll probably get used to the colour on her, too. The dress looks lovely, and shiny, and just like in the Hungarian production. Her expression is so Dramatic that I can't say too much about how she's going to look normally. ;-) I'm rather thrilled about the costume on Thomas and I'm eagerly waiting for more pics. Yeah, I really wished they fixed something about Lukas's look. Like this he reminds me too much of Héger Tibor, who really. didn't. look. like. an. Alfred. ETA: Oh, and here's the link to the Thomas/Marjan pic we were talking about: www.kultur-channel.at/Pics/tdvneu.jpg The expressions crack me up. ;D

Sorry, are those periods an inside joke or something? I'm kinda lost. You never did get to post an English version of your Tibor review. The ones on your board really crack me up. "Deer caught in the headlights." That's just mean

*blinks confusedly* Periods? They're... uh, a way of expression I've picked up in the worlds of the interwebs some time. I think it's meant to simulate a mode of speech where you're emphasizing each word separately to show that you really feel strongly about what you're saying. I haven't ever really thought about it because the meaning has been sort of automatic to me...
Oh drat, I nearly forgot, I've been sitting on the Tibor review for ages without posting it... Mainly because I b*tched enough in my original version that I had to make sure I'm not leaving in anything too inappropriate or offensive into public versions. But I'll go and post it soon. I still also need to write the review of the Gyuri performance (I seem to mark my TdV performances by Alfreds nowadays).

haha... if you still have it, please PM me the original version some time. I'd really like to see it. that ought to make for a great read ;-D
Can I just say that eclipsis is my favorite Tanz board? I think you girls are the real experts on this show. There are plenty of other boards like the one in the fanclub. Although they are the fastest when it comes to info, I find very few opinions apart from the generic, so and so was "great" or "sweet" or "really good." These feelings are rarely ever qualified or explained.
Eclipsis has character analysis, design comparisons, historical background, etc etc all told through straightforward honest opinions with a sprinkling of humour. Keep it up :-)
