Re: the prices, guess why I prefer going to see this show in Budapest... The tickets are less than half the price and the city is much cheaper to stay in, and I can count on not having inferior actors in any role. I kind of want to see the Vienna production, because of the sets, orchestra and some interesting-sounding understudies, but it's not happening until I get richer (and can be sure it's an off day for both Lukas and Marjan... no offence to their fans, but I know I'm not keen on seeing them and their understudies sound much more interesting). I can see why. Well I was expecting high prices, I left many hundreds of Euros in Rebecca tickets in 2008 but Tanz is even more expensive! (and granted the VBW gets money from the State I can see no valid reason for the high tickets...) If I wasn't going with the Family I would go to Budapest instead, but they haven't been in Vienna yet so I'll make the "effort" of going there again with them ;D

I know this is way off, but I live in the US, so it's difficult for me to get wind of possibilities...
I am living in Europe for the second half of 2011, and I was wondering if there is any word of Tanz doing well enough to justify it going that far in advance....obviously it's not necessarily even going to be remotely confirmed at this time, but what would your estimation be based on how well the show is selling? If it were to extend beyond the 2010-2011 season (next season), I'd assume it would only be for a brief half season through December 2011 (which would be wonderful for me!).
I heard a rumor that Das Phantom der Oper may return to Vienna, is there any truth to this?

Any one you specially recomend? No problem with the stars, (I normaly stay in 5 star Hotels but in Europe its not justified and 4 star ones are already very good) Well, Sacher is one I would recommend, if only for the "Betthupferl". ;D

I don't know exactly how well the show is selling but I assume it's selling ok (I dunno how people over there feel about the prices they charge for the tickets...) HOWEVER, I have high doubts that the show will run until end 2011. It is a Revival after all and Thomas won't certainly be in the role that long...and as soon as Thomas leaves and the show falls in the hands of Marjan and Lukas...it won't last longer lol About The Phantom of the Opera...I have heard no such rumors so far. I think whichever production replaces Tanz or Ich war noch niemals in New York will have to be a short run, 'cause in 2012 there is the possiblity of staging the 20th Anniversary production of Elisabeth. And The Phantom of the Opera is a far too expensive show to stage just for a couple of months...AND then there is Marie Antoinette that Michael Kunze would like to see staged in Vienna and that is bound to happen sooner or latter... So far the only thing we can be sort of sure is that Tanz will be on stage until end 2010 wich is when the Actors contracts end. After that God knows...

A very nice trailer from the Vienna revival production, officially posted on YouTube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=UApy57aGE-YAnd sorry for crossposting this from the other thread, but just in case there are some people who would be interested in this and don't read the Budapest production thread: some of the Vienna cast recently went to see the Budapest production and met with their Hungarian colleagues afterwards, and there are lots of cute pictures here, from Marc Liebisch posing in the Herbert suite of a Budapest hotel to various Hungarian and Viennese cast members posing together in the party after the show: www.vampirokbalja.com/galeria/galeria_56.html

Thanks for the link, Valancy! The show looks amazing - I think I should finally make a trip to Vienna to watch the show. Btw, it's selling extremely well! I've heard from people who bought tickets recently that it's nearly impossible to get reasonably priced tickets until March.

Postponed to middle-May. Apparently they had to re-record it in the Studio. What was supposed to be a "Live-Aufnahme" is now, like the Original ones, a Studio-Aufnahme". And I couldn't be happier ;D

I've heard the CD now - not bought it, and based on what I heard I'm not going to buy it. I'm not too impressed. The orchestra is great, but otherwise there isn't much that I like, and most of what I like can be found in better form on other CDs, so there's not much point in this one, not for me at least. (For the record, I anyway wasn't going to buy it before I'd heard it, however long that would take, because I'm not crazy about the cast.)
My biggest problem is definitely Lukas Perman as Alfred - after hearing the full CD I subscribe to all the bad things I've heard about him from people who've seen him. He plays the character as completely brainless, he has no other interpretation except to "play stupid", he doesn't manage to be endearing, sweet, funny or any other things that Alfred should be, and is completely boring and annoying. I guess his voice is fine if you like that kind of voice, though I find him too breathy and pop-ish, but no amoung of singing skill would make up for his absolute lack of acting skills and the way he butchers Alfred's character. I can name several actors in this role who both sing better and can act.
I'm not too fond of Marjan either, though I can bear with her more than with Lukas, she's okay and I can at least listen to her without feeling enraged. Still there are many more talented young women they could have chosen for the part. Her voice is slightly better than on the TAC recording (or they just re-recorded all her shaky parts enough times that she sounds okay), but she still sounds too weak and shrill to my liking, and her acting skills are nothing special. She's okay, but nothing more than that. I also really don't like the way she and Lukas sound together.
Thomas Borchert is fine. His voice is very good, and while his acting is not the best I've heard from him, at least it's miles better than Lukas or Marjan. Still, he sounds a bit stiff and uninterested, so I can hear where the reports of his seeming bored in the role come from. I like him here, but I like him better on the 10th anniversary concert recording.
Gernot Kranner is good, but he's on all other German-language recordings. Also, I find his acting nowadays a little bit too exaggerated, and I don't like the way he plays the changed ending, he makes the Professor sound distressed which gives me an awful feeling about the whole scene. I haven't seen how it works out live, though.
I don't like Anna Thorén as Magda; while her voice would be nice if she used it right, she's somehow shouty a lot and I can get nothing out of her acting. Marc Liebisch sounds good to me, like he plays Herbert with energy and personality, and his voice sounds nice enough. If he had a better Alfred to play with, I'd totally listen to him more. I've nothing special to say about Chagal or Rebecca, they're okay.
The ensemble sound bad in some songs and good in others. Mostly they give a good, solid performance though not the best I've ever heard. Still, they're the main thing besides Borchert I actually enjoy listening to. The first Carpe Noctem solist sounds awful, and generally Carpe Noctem sounds just weird. I think there's something totally wrong with how it's been mixed, some voices are far too loud and others get drowned so that the music doesn't end up sounding the way it should. The fans of the production I've seen commenting on the CD so far say that Carpe Noctem doesn't sound at all the way it does live. It's a pity, it's one of the songs I could be listening to from this CD if they just had a decent solist and decent mixing, because the ensemble is otherwise fine and I'm loving the orchestra.
Not having seen the production, I don't know how close this is to how the production is when you see it live. Could be some things are much better live, though I am absolutely sure I want to avoid Lukas Perman's "Alfred" like the plague (unless I get some morbid curiosity about just how bad he is when you also see all his stupid expressions). But as a CD, in any case, I don't think it's good. It's a pity, because the original Vienna cast recording is so great, and now it really feels like the only purpose of the revival production is to bring in money, not to actually make something artistically high quality where everyone in the show is really into what they're doing. At least that's the feel of the CD.
Disclaimer: This is, of course, my opinion and I don't want to discourage others from forming their own by hearing the CD themselves. But these are my impressions and thoughts about it. I haven't listened to it that many times, but I don't really want to, given how little there was that I liked, so I might as well write this now.

I've bought the CD for the sake of collection and I have to say this: Live it doesn't sound ANYTHING like the CD. I can't say anything specific about "Carpe Noctem" 'cause the song and scene bored me to death in the Theater but all other songs, specially the ensemble ones, sound much better live. The music in the CD sometimes even sounds "fake". As if they were using some bad backtracks. AND of course, it wouldn't be a MG-Sound CD without an Error...this time at the end of "Gott ist tot"... "nicht mehr zz...züruck"...gosh...
As for the ending...Well Gernot didn't played it THAT distressed when I saw the show. He worries and is clearly confused. And the new ending is what I like the most in the CD honestly.
The Original CD is amazing. I think they should have made an extra effort in this CD to at least put it to the level of the other one...apparently not. And if it was indeed recorded on September 2009 as the CD announces, then they had enough time...of course it wasn't. They did "additional recordings" in the Studio...which could explain some of the "fake" sound...

Yeah, I can believe things sound different live, it's often the case, I was above all judging the recording as itself. I really wonder why after so many months they've released something so poor in quality. But on the other hand I am certain this tells me well enough whether I like Lukas as Alfred or not, he can't have improved so much. Especially when many people tell me he hasn't. But for the ensemble especially, I'm willing to believe they suffer from bad mixing and the like, because it sounds like it to me. Yeah, they probably re-recorded many bits in the studio. Makes me wonder what it originally sounded like if this is the supposedly improved version... I don't like the changed ending. Of course I haven't seen it, but from what it sounds like here and what I've heard about it, it sounds totally unnecessary, and the music flows badly together. And I don't like the unpleasant side note I get from it on the recording - hearing the Professor distressed like that makes me feel all nasty and uncomfortable, and it doesn't fit with the general upbeat feeling of the ending. Of course the story is actually quite dark if you think about it, but I like the irony that we're cheering for the vampires while they're planning to eat us, and making the ending actually dark cheapens that awesome irony. And it's just unnecessary and doesn't fit in the music.
