Maya has played in St.Gallen before. She was in their production of ALW's Aspects of Love. So probably the Theater just went to the list of people who had worked with them already. So I wouldn't be surprised if Carsten Lepper reprises his role as Favell.
I think they could have managed to find someone better for the role. Ann Christine Evelrum (spelling?) who playing in St.Gallens Dracula would be a better option for the role imo...

Lisa Antoni is playing Ich based on her FB fanpage. I can hardly contain my joy!

Hmm interesting! I wonder how will she play against Thomas...her voice isn't that strong.
I would be interested in this more, but Maya's casting just killed the show for me...=\

Argh. I didn't like her as Mary. And I think if she's not girly and sensitive enough for Mary, she's not going to be so for Ich either. Of course, she may hopefully have learned something in between - and Rebecca probably gets character-directed better than Rudolf did.

Official now, and the full cast list is on the theatre's website (under "Besetzung"). Kerstin Ibald will play Beatrice again. She'll also apparently cover Danvers in one performance, and in the same performace (31.12.2011) Maxim will be played by Florian Fetterle (hmm, I can't imagine that).

They've listed the set and costume designers as well as the director of the Vienna production as part of the creative team. Does this mean they'll be approximating the original stage design?

Meh, I was hoping there'd be someone else directing. While Zambello's directing was okay, it didn't get nearly as much out of the story as the productions in Budapest and in the tiny Finnish town Kouvola. There'd be no need to make Zambello "The Director" of Rebecca, on the contrary: some fresh blood clearly makes the musical only good.

Thank God Maya won't be the only Danvers in St. Gallen. She'll alternate the role with Kerstin Ibald. And also Andre Bauer returns as Frank Crawley.
Here's the complete Cast, according to the site of the theater:
Ich - Lisa Antoni Maxim de Winter - Thomas Borchert, Florian Fetterle Mrs. Danvers - Maya Hakvoort, Kerstin Ibald Jack Favell - Andreas Wolfram Mrs. Van Hopper - Isabel Dörfler Beatrice - Kerstin Ibald, Melanie Ortner Frank Crawley - André Bauer, Fernand Delosch Ben - Oliver Heim Oberst Julyan - David Steck

To be honest Maxim's song made me sleepy.

To be honest Maxim's song made me sleepy. Not surprised. It was written for Yuichiro Yamaguchi in the Japanese production. And the Japanese productions always tend to sound long and boring (I could never listen through the Japanese CD of MA without falling asleep and that song is very much in that style.) I hope they speed it up so the song doesn't drag too much on that scene...

A little vid from St.Gallen. Some bits and pieces of Rebecca and Francesca Zambello talking about this production. vimeo.com/31084377Maya actually surprises me by how good she sounds. Thomas... He is good in that first bit, Maxim singing about his wife, but when it comes to the emotions he looses me. He is somewhat... artificial? It's like he doesn't actually understand what is this De Winter whining about.

I saw it some days ago...and guess what? I don't agree Maya is awful as I knew she would be. Specially in the bit of "Sie ergibt sich nicht" she looks like she's having a stroke... Thomas looks good. There aren't many close ups of his face (none actually) so we can't really judge his expressions, but the movements and the voice seem ok. Maybe he could vary a bit...he sings "Zauberhaft Natürlich" with the same movements he uses in "Hilf mir durch die Nacht"...

I liked what I saw of Thomas. I only expect so much out of him in terms of emoting, and he was par for the course. His physical acting looked good and and sounded very good singing the score. Uwe was all angst and no singing, so the change is nice at least.
Not getting into my opinion of Maya - it makes me too sad.
I was happy to see Kerstin back as Beatrice. Love her!
