More precicely in St.Gallen. After hosting the European premiere of Wildhorn's revised Dracula and the World Premiere of Wildhorn's The Count of Monte Cristo, the Theater St.Gallen is planning on opening Rebecca in the 2011 season. This was announced by VBW (http://www.musicalvienna.at/index.php/de/presse/article/55193)as well as reported by www.musicalzentrale.de/With this one, it makes Switzerland the 5th Country in the World to produce Rebecca professionaly (6th if we count the amateur Russian workshop) in just 4 years of existence of the show. Also not to forget there are productions planned for: - West End/B'way (probably West End first) - Czech Republic - Holland |

South Korea is not in the list yet? I read an article that says they plan to have Rebecca next year and Elisabeth in 2012(postponed one year)...Plans are usually subject to change though.

Haven't heard anything from a Korean production of Rebecca but I wouldn't be surprised if it took the place of Elisabeth.
On the other hand there are other productions of Rebecca that were announced but then no other news came out (namely the Czech and Dutch productions)

This could be good. It'll be something new and a bit different for Borchert to do, and I think he'll fit the part. I'm curious about how it will be. Too bad St. Gallen doesn't tend to do cast recordings...

And I am not exactly happy with it... May I ask why? As much as I love Thomas Borchert and his vocal abilities, I have some mixed feelings about his acting in this case. He tends to give his characters some kind of aggressiveness, some ferocity, which not always suits. It didn't exactly suit Leopold Mozart and it definitely did not fit to dr. Jekyll. Borchert's Hyde was amazing, Jekyll, the acting part of it, not so much. But back to "Rebecca". This "borchertian" ferocity is one of the last things I would like to see in Maxim. De Winter shouldn't be brute and I hope Borchert will avoid this. But why? If that's your opinion feel free to express it ;D I might be Uwe's fan, but it does not mean I'm going to exterminate anyone who doesn't feel the same 'bout him  Btw. One of the last things on the world I'd want to see is Uwe, murdering any of his past roles, Maxim included, with his disaster of a voice. I love him and it would hurt me like a bloody Hell. |

What are the sets like when they stage musicals in St. Gallen? Can we expect the same production values from Vienna or will this be very much scaled-down? Also, apart from Thomas, will the rest of the cast be as "professional?" I'm really excited about this.

The productions in St. Gallen normaly have very good Casts. As for the sets, no, don't count on the same production values as in Vienna, mainly 'cause seldom is the Theater who can afford those kinds of things (keep in mind VBW is funded by the state of Vienna unlike the majority of Theaters in Europe). But St. Gallen productions are generaly good. The one place I feared the production would look like rubish was in Budapest and even there they managed to put up an amazing show so St. Gallen won't disapoint I'm sure |

Oh, they tend to have good casts all right. From what I've noticed, the leads are usually visiting musical actors - a mixture of well-known stars and rising new talents. The ensemble might be the theatre's own actors, but they're no less professional for it, though I'm not sure if they're specifically trained to be musical actors.
The sets don't tend to be anything hugely impressive, but mostly not horrible either. I personally felt the sets in Vienna were a bit too impressive and took attention away from the rest of the piece. But then I'm usually more focused on how acting and direction make the characters and story come across, than I am on outer trappings, even though suitable outer trappings are also a good thing. I didn't like what St. Gallen did with Dracula, giving it some sort of an ugly 50s look, but otherwise I think their sets have been acceptable, if not amazing.

Maya just announced on Facebook that she'll be playing Mrs. Danvers. I wonder how this production will fare when there is some founded speculation on Pia taking on the same role in a Stuttgart production come November.

I'm trying not to kill myself with such a bad choice. The Stuttgart production isn't assured yet. As Kunze says "It's more than a rumor but less than a fact". But if the polls had any influence, the person playing the role of Danvers would be Susan Rigvava-Dumas (75.22%) and not Pia (19.64%) If the german production does happen and Pia does take the role, I don't think the St.Gallen production will last long. The only thing now that arrises my interest in the St.Gallen production is Thomas Borchert as Maxim. I would like to see what Pia would do with the role though. |

I'm not a huge fan of Maya, but I must say I'd be happy to see someone new in the role. Susan's voice is incredible, yes, but I don't think she (and possibly Pia) are the only options out there. With Susan & Danvers it's a bit the like Steve Barton & the Krolock cult after Vienna and especially after his death: people can't imagine anyone else in the role, which is why those polls are always a bit stupid.
It may of course be that Maya is the best option St. Gallen has had. It's not a huge theatre and I don't know how well they can pay the actors compared to VBW ect., and if the actors usually work somewhere else, they may be unwilling to travel to a relatively little Swiss town and back.
