Thomas looks good. There aren't many close ups of his face (none actually) so we can't really judge his expressions, but the movements and the voice seem ok. Maybe he could vary a bit...he sings "Zauberhaft Natürlich" with the same movements he uses in "Hilf mir durch die Nacht"... How can he be good, when he uses the same movements both woth the calm, reflexive song and dynamic piece, full of strong emotions?

I don't expect him to go around moving like an emo in the angst songs. The tone in the voice changes and I would like to see his facial expressions. The body expression isn't THAT important in this case. I was just noticing he could avoid the same gestures. But then again, that's the directors fault. I still have him anytime over Uwe or any other Maxim I've seen. He can improve in those little things still.

There is something between not moving almost at all and running around like an emo. Emotions are expressed not only by the voice tone and facial expressions but also by the movements of the body. If someone sings that he feels very strong emotions, yet he is standing still I'm starting to have quite of a dissonance. The body expression is ALWAYS important. It's a theater, you don't have any close-ups here. Director is actually the very same Francesca Zambello who directed Viennese production. And she didn't make Uwe stand in one place like a log. Or repeat his body language. Surprise, eh? These things are not that little. And I miss Uwe's emotional intensity and warmth.

It IS the directors fault because it is HER who has to correct the actors when they are doing these things. And even if, in her direction be body movements AREN'T that important (most of the characters keep very still in the productions by Zambello). You don't have close ups but you have EYEs. And in a Video, when the image isn't as good as the one you get with your eyes, then the close ups are necessary. And actually not everyone has to go around moving accordingly to their emotions. Particularly in British High society as is the case of Maxim. But one thing is to stand still or have little movements, other is to repeat the same movement (and I'm talking about that gesture with the arm Thomas does, in this case) in two different songs.
I don't miss anything in Uwe. He looked always on the verge of going into domestic violence. I don't like that in Maxim nor I think that is appropriate to the character. And I'm obviously not going into the singing part.

The cast in Viennese Rebecca was very static, right? Maya Hakvoort is too static and unexpressive, right? When you sit at the back of the audience or somewhere on the balcony ypu don't see facial expressios of the actors, unless you have Superman's eyesight. And there is no close-ups. Yet the people from every d**n corner of audience should know what the character is feeling in the moment. Without facial close-ups. That's where Borchert as De Winter fails. Even an English gentleman (and I had that pleasure to meet one) expresses his emotions using his body, especially when alone, like Maxim was, when singing "Gott warum". And even in case of an Englishman the body language is different, when he is under influence of strong emotions and when calm. And I'm not talking here about wild gestures or running around like a madman. In this particular case Borchert uses the same restrained body languages when his character is calm and when he is agitated. Wrong. Very wrong. Domestic violence? When did you get THAT?

No. Maya's singing is awfull and she looks like she's having a stroke singing "Sie ergibt sich nicht". Has nothing to do with the static staging.
I still disagree with you on Borchert and this discussion will lead us nowhere. (and FYI, maybe, but I never sit on balcony or sits too far. If I'm going to spend money to see a show I prefer to get a good sit where I can see well. 'cause to me, the facial expressions mater more than the body expression.)
Uh...every single time Uwe shouted at "Ich"? And specially in "Gott, warum?".

Noticeable change in the direction is during the end of Act 1 where Ich now comes down again to try to reason with Maxim and he just stares at her and runs upstairs (Mrs. Danvers how is in the top of the stairs kinda like the Hungarian version). (also, first time I've heard the end note of "Manderley in Flammen" being sung without cracking in the end.)

I only have the boot of the OVC to compare it to but I definitely prefer the St. Gallen version. Several fans who have seen both versions also shared my sentiment. I'm a huge fan of Lisa Antoni so I'm biased here but she was born to play this part. Perfect in every way. Maya was the star of the evening though as she delivered an incredibly powerful performance and showed how brilliant she is as an actress. She interprets Danvers as a mother unable to cope with the death of her child and firmly believing this child will return. I loved the scene where she combed the air and showed the invisible Rebecca her reflection (*can be seen in the clip). I also loved how she literally cried out of anger when Ich destroyed the Cupid statue. True, her voice wasn't astonishing but the acting more than made up for it and her singing became incidental. For me, she could have simply recited her lines and I'd accept it as long as she played the role with this moving interpretation. I really enjoyed Maxim's new song. Of course Thomas sang everything perfectly but a lot of it was again Lisa's doing by simply looking "Zauberhaft Natuerlich." Lastly, the orchestra was breathtaking. I've seen a handful of VBW shows in Wien (some under Caspar Richter). Never before have I heard a stage orchestra play so beautifully. Needless to say, the show is highly recommended. Trading in the sets of Stuttgart and Pia for the magic of Lisa-Maya is for me a fair exchange. It also helps that I'm NOT a Lucy fan. :-P Haha, I wonder if during Jekyll and Hyde Thomas ever thought he'd one day really be splitting his time between a Lisa and a Lucy. I'd love to hear them do "In His Eyes" though. That would make for a kickass recording.

I disagree. The only thing that the St.Gallen/Stuttgart productions have better in the script is the inclusion of "Zauberhaft Naturlich", though in St.Gallen it's well incorporated in the show (happens in the cliffs, while Ich is drawing Maxim) and in Stuttgart, for some weird reason it's before "Die neue Mrs. de Winter".
Everything else is pretty worse. The re-write of "Er verlor unerwartet" makes no sense. It conveys the same idea as the other lyrics but sound worse and seem to don't fit as well. Same thing for "Sie war gewohnt...".
The new song that replaced "Wir sind British", "Sie nicht hierher gehört" manages to do the same as the cut song BUT without being funny. The tune is based on "Wir sind British" but with a tempo and orchestrations that could have been pulled of Marie Antoinette.
As for Maya in St.Gallen that clip just proves what I thought from the very beginning. She s*cks as Danvers. With Thomas in Stuttgart, I prefer to just forget the St.Gallen production exists. Pia is a bit disappointing (she's squeaking too much) but I'm sure she'll grow stronger as she gets used to the role (like happened to Susan).
Honestly, if the changes are of this calibre, I'd rather they open the original Wien script on Broadway.

A clip that was filmed during a rehearsal! So either go see her live and form an opinion or (sorry) shut up on that! Same with the Thomas-bashing in this thread by the way!

Not much. I don't like "discussions" with fans who think that they know everything. Without knowing anything at all (because they haven't even been to the show to see the actors they are judging live on stage). Not fair, not my style and certainly not the type of message board I would register for...
But by the way, Albert, I completely agree on what you said about Lisa! She is the best "I" I have ever seen (I saw Wietske, Joana, Jana, Silke, Leigh and Lisa)!

Also, piece of advice, next time, try to read more before you vomit your words into a keyboard. Had you done that would you know that I never liked Maya in anything she has done. And judging by those clips, I would not PAY to go see her live ruining my favourite show 'cause she does still s*ck (and here you have a justification, I didn't need to give you, for free, to help your non-existent brain to understand my words better)

Lol... did I expect a different answer? Not really. What to expect of a person who differentiates opinions in "worth" and "more worth"?! This is ridiculous, just as I said before.
