By the way, and I know this is off topic (Brae, Lora forgive me) why wasn't there a full recording of Mozart! ? I am not sure but I think because it is not as popular as Elisabeth, Tanz der Vampire and Rebecca.Milady probably has an answer to this one. There are complete Japanese Cast recordings and one highlights(either recording has Yuichiro Yamaguchi and 2 Takarazuka Stars Kouju Tatsuki and Maki Ichiro respectively). Really? The problem with the Japanese CDs is that I can never find them...neither in shops nor in the net. ( edit: the full album I mean) And it is really awfull since I saw a clip of "Wie kann es möglisch sein" and the guy was great...and I would like to have contact with the all show, 'cause neither the Wien CD nor the Hungarian CD convinced me (although I like 4 or 5 songs). That was what made me fear Rebecca at first. I loved Elisabeth, then I came across Mozart! and I thought...well this is good also, although the songs are noting special with some exceptions (Wie wird man etc, Gold von den Sternen, Was fur ein Kind, Irgendwo wird immer getanz, wie kann es möglisch sein, Mozart! and the Finale) Thank God Rebecca is far much better than Mozart!...but I'm suspect in saying this... Lets hope Milady can anwser me

Well here is the Link to the highlights with Yuichiro Yamaguchi, Yoshio Inoue, Akinori Nakagawa, Maki Ichiro and Kouju Tatsuki: tinyurl.com/2vvne5I got the complete Pink Cast which contain these actors but its out of print. You may have luck finding it second hand.

Luckily, I have the Pink Cast which contains the cast that I have already mentioned.

I actually like live recordings. I think it's fitting for theatre. I'm not a fan of the cds that seem overly mainipulated or poorly done. An example would be the Essen recording of Elisabeth. I would have loved if they had done a live recording instead. I think the cd poorly showcases the cast. My only problem with the Essen recording is that it is too short, AND, and this I can't forgive, doesn't have Eine Kaiserin muss glänzen. I hate it when the CDs of Elisabeth don't have that song, since is one of my favourites. But than again, I'll not forgive VBW for not including "Sie war gewohnt geliebt zu werden" or the 2nd reprise of "Rebecca" (wich I love...it almost seems a mourning cry of Mrs. Danvers, a great prelude to disaster...I love specialy the way Susan says "Keine nimmt dir deinen Platz...Niemals! Rebecca!"...I would greatfully trade those for "Hand wäscht die andre Hand" (and Mr. Carsten would appear the same). But well...lets hope they compensate it with the full Album

I think you guys have it nailed as for why there isn't a full recording of Mozart - it just wasn't as successful as Elisabeth or Tanz. All three had highlights recordings released, but only the two got full recordings released later, after success was established. (Someone more familiar with Tanz can tell you, though, whether the tracks from the highlights version are used on the full version.) I don't think there was much demand for the material not on the highlights.

(Someone more familiar with Tanz can tell you, though, whether the tracks from the highlights version are used on the full version.) No, they aren't. The highlights version and the full version are two different recordings. On the highlights version, many songs have been shortened and performed in a slightly different way than in the actual musical. Nie geseh'n, for example, is sung only by Sarah and Alfred etc. I think both recordings are worth buying, if you like TdV, because they have an amazing quality. And because of Steve Barton, naturally. ;D

Thanks, Sinina. My knowledge of Tanz is practically a black hole.

Yes, the diferences in the Tanz CDs I was aware (and I actually prefer some songs in the Highlights instead of the full album). As for Mozart! its a pitty, since I'm aware that it developed since is Wien version. I got the Hamburg libretto and there are at least one diference (they changed Was für ein Kind...wich I hate the ideia, since the original is brilliant). But I understand...maybe there will be a full album in a few years if the show gets better. Thanks Milady

Really? The problem with the Japanese CDs is that I can never find them...neither in shops nor in the net. www.tohostage.com/cd/index.htmlToho sells various recordings directly, but only to addresses within Japan and their ordering procedure is...well...the curse filter keeps me from using any of the more accurate terms. To make things worse, they don't release their stuff to sites like HMV, CDJapan, or even Amazon. to order, use a site like Crescent-Shop or Shopping Mall Japan as a courier and take advantage of the exchange rates - you'll need it when they sock you for the fees. Sound of Music also carries a handful of Japanese recordings, but their markup is pretty bad.

Yes that is my problem. I'm not willing to pay 100€ for a CD no matter how good it may be. Since I never even went to Japan, I can't have Toho products. And SOM is also very expensive (to be polite). I'm even surprised that Marie Antoinette CD just costes almost 60€ (though its a robery)

(and Mr. Casper would appear the same). I'm pretty sure that you know his name - Carsten (!) - so please use it. You may not be fond of him, but it's quite annoying to use a false name, though, I don't like that actor that much either. Thanks

Btw, the complete recording of Rebecca will be live! They've already recorded two complete shows (with the applause )

Erm.. I've read it in an Austrian musical message board, that they recorded it on the 6th and the 7th June (they said just audio - maybe also a DVD for the cast?). Their source was Wietske van Tongeren
