Why are they closing a show as brilliant as REBECCA to make way for a crap show like MP?! They didn't put much effort in marketing Rebecca, so no wonder that there were empty seats even in the premiere. Merely hanging up posters with the logo and text "Show kuin unelma" isn't enough, especially when the word 'show' in its Finnish meaning definitely doesn't sound like Rebecca. To be honest, I'm glad to see the production end. I saw it three times and every time I liked it less, and more and more things started to annoy me. It could have been such a great production with a different director and translator, but no... Well I'm NOT! Specially 'cause even after all the people who wrote in their site asking for a CD of the production the "genius" who runs the Theater wasn't clever enough to release one...

How many times have we said that Finnish theatres hardly ever release cast recordings of musicals? I'd have had the surprise of my life if there had been one. Seriously, it doesn't happen.

Unfortunately the producers of the Finnish shows don't think that there would be enough demand for a Finnish cast recording. Domestic sales could do reasonably well - at best! But internationally the demand would most likely be very close to non-existant! So there's a big chance that they wouldn't break even, get their investments back, not to mention make some profit.

Hardly is not never and the answer I got from the Theater was that they were going to see what would happen. Besides, I dunno if it's also that normal having so many people asking for the recording (just go read the comments on the site, you who don't even need Googletranslator as I did)

I don't think it's going to happen - as much as I'd like to see it happening! But since the show is closing in early May, I don't think we'll ever see the Finnish recording.

There will be a new production of Rebecca in Kouvola, a small city in Eastern Finland. There are already some promotional photos on the homepage of the theatre, and IMO they look good. The premiere is on September 17th 2010. I'm curious to see what it will be like... The Helsinki production had some really big problems with the translation and plot changes, and I hope they won't be repeated in Kouvola. Apparently VBW didn't exactly approve of the changes, so there's hope. The translation is probably the same (meh...), but at least the director is different. Maxim will be played by Tommi Rantamäki, Ich by Kati Solehmainen and Mrs Danvers by Tytti Vänskä, but I don't know any of them.

It seems the show had success I'm not sure if I like the design (well for what I can judge based on small photos...). Maxim and Ich seem a bit too much like Bonnie & Clyde but probably they're not using the final costumes anyway.
